LASEK

LASEK is a surgical procedure aimed at correcting myopia and astigmatism by removing the epithelial layer of the cornea and reshaping the underlying cornea with a laser.

  • Though the process involves 4-7 days of discomfort, it is considered one of the most conservative laser vision correction surgeries.
  • This procedure is especially recommended for individuals with thin corneas or those who wear thick glasses.

LASIK

LASIK is a surgical procedure that employs laser technology to create, fold back, and then reposition a corneal flap to reshape the cornea.

  • Patients generally experience foreign-body sensation and slight discomfort for 3-4 hours after operation. However, most return to their daily activities within a day, making LASIK one of the most convenient surgical options with excellent outcomes.

SMILE

SMILE(SMall Incision Lenticule Extraction) is a newly developed type of laser-based refractive surgery.
Unlike traditional LASIK, which requires the creation of a corneal flap,
SMILE uses a femtosecond laser to create a thin, disc-shaped piece of tissue called a ‘lenticule.’
The lenticule is then removed to reshape the cornea and correct refractive errors. This procedure involves a minimal incision in the cornea, leading to a shorter operation time, faster recovery, and greater stability compared to LASIK.

SMILE PRO

"Faster Speed, Optimal Outcome"

SMILE PRO is the advanced version of SMILE, using the state-of-the-art VISUMAX 800 by ZEISS.
It allows for an even shorter procedure time compared to SMILE LASIK. The laser exposure time for SMILE PRO is less than 10 seconds, making it three times faster than the original SMILE.
This is made possible by ZEISS’s cutting-edge precision scanning technology.
The significantly reduced laser exposure time lowers the risk of suction loss and minimizes the patient’s psychological stress during the procedure. SMILE PRO is exclusively available at our clinic in Gwangju.

Implantable Contact Lens (ICL) surgery – A Safe, Personalized option

Lens implantation surgery is a safe alternative for individuals who do not meet the criteria for LASIK surgery.
At Shinsegae Eye Clinic, we perform an in-depth analysis of each patient’s eye condition using over 50 diagnostic tools. Based on the results, we recommend the best, fully customized treatment option.

Good candidates for ICL surgery

  • When LASIK and LASEK are not possible
  • When the cornea is too thin compared to the refractive error
  • When the pupil size is large at night
  • If you have severe dry eye syndrome
  • If you have a corneal disease such as keratoconus

EVO+ICL

EVO+ICL is a procedure designed to correct refractive errors by implanting an artificial contact lens in the posterior chamber of the eye. The appropriate lens is selected based on a precise examination of the patient’s eye.
Our clinic provides comprehensive care, from pre-operative examinations to the management of rare post-operative complications.

Is it Presbyopia or Cataracts? - They Often Occur Together

Cataracts and presbyopia are common conditions associated with aging,
but the skilled medical staff at our clinic can assist you with both.

What is Cataract?

Cataract is the clouding of the eye’s natural lens, which is normally clear. For those with cataracts, seeing through cloudy lenses is like looking through a frosty window.

Cataracts are most commonly caused by aging, but they can also result from trauma or diabetes. Most people over age 60 begin to experience blurry vision.

Cataract is an irreversible change in the lens that can only be cured through surgery. Cataract surgery involves removing the clouded lens and replacing it with a clear artificial lens, known as an intraocular lens(IOL).

What is Presbyopia?

Presbyopia is the gradual loss of the eyes’ ability to focus on nearby objects. It is a natural part of aging and cannot be reversed, which many people find frustrating. Symptoms typically become noticeable in the mid-40s and worsen until around age 65.

While you can correct presbyopia with eyeglasses, surgery is also an option.
