Why does dry eye occur after cataract surgery?

  • Temporary dulling of corneal nerves

    Temporary dulling of corneal nerves

Fine nerves around the corneal incision site may be affected,
    temporarily reducing tear-secretion signals.

  • Inflammation and post-op eye drops

    Inflammation and post-op eye drops

Essential post-op eye drops can briefly destabilise
    the tear film during recovery.

  • Aggravation of pre-existing dry eye

Patients who already had dry eye before surgery
may notice symptoms more strongly during recovery.

STEP 1

Tear Film Precise Diagnosis

Before treatment, we precisely analyse
the tear film and meibomian gland condition.

Lipiview II

Infrared imaging checks the structural condition of the meibomian glands,
and analysis of incomplete blink patterns
helps diagnose the cause of dry eye.

STEP 2

Meibomian Gland Treatment with Heat & Pressure

We use a globally proven
dry-eye treatment device.

LipiFlow

Steady heat and gentle pressure applied to both sides of the eyelids
melt and expel congested
meibomian gland oils.

STEP 3

Inflammation & Abnormal Vascular Care

We improve the inflammatory response
and abnormal vessels behind chronic dry eye.

M22 IPL Laser

Light energy delivered to the periocular skin alleviates inflammation
and supports meibomian gland function,
improving the quality of the tear film.

How to Manage Dry Eye After Cataract Surgery

  • Warm eye compress with a towel at 40–45 °C twice a day for 5–10 minutes
  • Follow the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 min, look 20 ft (6 m) away for 20 sec
  • Keep indoor humidity at 40–60% and use a humidifier as needed
  • Drink at least 1.5 L of water daily and take omega-3 supplements
  • Adjust airflow so air-conditioning or heating does not blow directly on your eyes
  • Apply artificial tears whenever your eyes feel dry or gritty
  • Reduce eye fatigue with adequate sleep and rest
  • Blink consciously and frequently when using digital devices
  • Avoid prolonged use of digital devices in low-light environments
